Book Cover: Bookman Old Style

I really like this design. I think i will save this as the final. It took me the entire class to figure it ou but i am happy with the result. It is super boring but exactly what i wanted/ needed. Now that i figured out this design, the inside will be no problem.

Book Project roughs

I am going for the 1850s newsprint style. These are all very boring, so i am going to work on a twist for them.

Bookman Old Style

Bookman was created in 1858 in Scotland. It was created for newsprint use. Considering not much was going on in Scotland at this time, i decided to look further in the world for history. In America in 1858 the Lincoln-Douglas debates were taking place from August to October. These series if debates were very well known and were made public by the use of Newspaper, which is how i am connecting Bookman to these events. I will be using the grids like the newspapers in 1858, they were very cluttered and used lines for separation.

Paragraph for part 3

In this assignment we will be taking a paragraph and we will be making it expressive through the type, and not symbols. My paragraph is about the War in Libya. When i read it I cannot help but to hear it in the voice of Jordan Dreyer, the voice of one of my favorite bands, La Dispute. I doubt anyone knows of his talent in the Post Hardcore genre of music, but when he speaks, you can almost see what he is saying.  After realizing this, i thought of several things to do. I want to use emphasis in words by making some words bolder and bigger. I want to find the most important and words and use them to express the entire paragraph. I will continue to use simple type faces that are impacting contemporary and very familiar. I will be using the mix of serif and sans serif. The first font i chose was Times New Roman in regular. It is in newspapers and is probably one of the most common type faces in the media. It is familiar and it reminds me of newspapers. The second font i will be using is Helvetica bold. This font in contemporary and also familiar. It is easy to read and it will stand out against the Times New Roman. I feel if i use familiar fonts to do this project i will be able show that the war is happening and it should be familiar and we should be informed of the problem, other than changing the channel when you hear about it. I want to make every word important, with making few the focal point/ the main point.  I want to try to use as many elements and principles as i can in this assignment.

My Intentions for Part 2 of Project 2

For this project we need to describe the headline: The War Between the Lybias. For this project i want to use a font popular in the media or a familiar font. Instead of using Helvetica again, I chose the simular font Impact. I want the image to remain clear and simple while keeping the message strong. I want to stay away from symbols and express more through the placement of the letters.

Definition of War

As said on Dictionary.com War is a conflict carried on by arms,as between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, as by land, sea, or air.

Not only is war a physical battle it was also described as a struggle.

Letter Project Roughs

I chose the letter 'g' in Georgia font to work with on this project. These are all of my roughs. They are really not in any order and they are very messy. The final project will be much neater.

Good and Bad lettering

It was brought to my attention two weeks ago that the 7 Eleven sign is one of the most annoying examples of Typography i have ever seen. The font is not fun, but it is easy to read. The thing that annoys me the most is the word 'Eleven." It is in all caps except for the 'N'. It is almost a different font all together. If it was not for the 7 distracting our views from the 'eleven' i think a lot more would notice it and hate it as much as i do. All together i don't think the sign matches at all and it is boring all together.
One of my favorite logos is a very sweet and simple one. I have always liked the Verizon logo. It is very easy to read and i like the way the Z is formated to go under the words and fades out, matching the check mark logo usually above the lettering or next to the lettering. Even if the font is cliche', it i a good logo and it is easy to read.
